Guwahati: Guwahati recently served as the backdrop for one of the region's largest pickleball competitions, the Guwahati Open PWR 200. Over the two-day event, 130 athletes competed in 210 matches spanning 22 distinct categories. Organised by the Assam Pickleball Association in coordination with the Indian Pickleball Association, the tournament drew participants from Assam, Nagaland, West Bengal, and Delhi.
The competition held both National Ranking and Pickleball World Rankings status, offering players a chance to improve their standings on both domestic and international circuits. Events ranged from junior to masters levels, encompassing boys, girls, men, and women. A prize purse of Rs 80,000 was awarded to winners in the Men’s Open categories and the 30 plus and 40 plus age groups.
Tournament organizers noted that the strong turnout highlights the rapid expansion of the sport across the Northeast. By hosting high-level ranking events, the Assam Pickleball Association aims to solidify the state's reputation as a key destination for competitive play. Officials stated that such tournaments are essential for identifying emerging talent and building a sustainable structure for the sport in the region.
