GST Department Raids Mobile Retailer in Assam Over Tax Evasion Claims

Guwahati: Goods and Services Tax officials conducted a surprise raid on a major mobile phone retailer in Golakganj, located in Assam's Dhubri district. The two-day operation, which took place on June 5 and 6, followed multiple reports of significant tax evasion at the establishment.

Upon arrival, enforcement teams cordoned off the premises to perform a comprehensive audit. Investigators are currently comparing physical stock levels against digital transaction records and previous tax filings to identify potential irregularities.

While officials have yet to confirm the total sum of the alleged evasion, the investigation remains active as they continue to review seized business documents. Speaking to the media, a GST enforcement official noted, "It would be premature to draw conclusions before the completion of the audit process."

The raid has generated significant concern among local business owners throughout the Dhubri district. The department indicated that any subsequent legal or financial actions will depend entirely on the findings of the final investigation report.
