Gorkha Community Gathers in Shillong for Bhasa and Balidan Diwas

Shillong: Gorkha community members filled the Upper Mawprem Cultural Hall in Shillong on August 25. They arrived to mark Bhasa Diwas and Balidan Diwas. The crowd included local writers, poets, and veterans of the Armed Forces.

The Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh and the Meghalaya Nepali Sahitya Sammelan hosted the joint event. Shiv Kumar Chettri, principal of Lumparing UP School, served as the chief guest for the day. Attendees paid tribute to heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for their people.

The celebration highlighted the enduring importance of Nepali language and heritage. Organizers focused on honoring those sacrifices, noting the event was a way to reflect on the past while celebrating Nepali language, literature and heritage. The session connected generations through shared history and cultural pride.
