Guwahati: A speeding goods train killed two railway labourers and left two others in critical condition on June 29. The accident happened on the Naranarayan Bridge in the Bongaigaon district of Assam. It was a brutal scene.

The victims were Rejaul Haque and Shahar Ali. Both died on the spot. Two other workers, Zakir Hussain and Iyar Alam, suffered grievous injuries. Medics rushed them to Goalpara Civil Hospital for emergency treatment.

All four men were casual labourers working on bridge construction. They were walking along the track when two trains approached at the same time. Officials said a fast-moving goods train headed for Guwahati hit the men. The impact was severe.

Railway authorities remain silent. "Further investigation is underway to ascertain the circumstances leading to the accident," officials stated. Police and rail teams are currently looking into why the men were on the tracks as the trains approached.
