Guwahati: Gauripur police dismantled a major theft ring after a late-night raid in Tiamari. Officers arrested nine men suspected of hitting houses and temples across the district. The operation netted a massive haul of stolen property.
Police seized ritual items from local temples, LPG cylinders, sound equipment, batteries, and bundles of electrical wire. The heist items point to a spree that plagued the region for months. Officer-in-Charge Bibhuti Thapa led the raid alongside Town Sub-Inspector Netra Kamal Bora.
The arrested suspects are Hassanur Islam, Khairus Zaman, Mintu Das, Mofizur Rahman, Sariful Hussain, Shahinul Sheikh, Pinku Alam, Rafiqul Hussain, and Manoj Ray. All nine reside in Gauripur. Police are now pressing the group for answers. They want to know if this crew feeds into bigger, inter-district fencing operations.
Officials are working to return the recovered goods to their owners. Regarding the crackdown, police noted, "Further investigation is underway." Authorities expect more arrests as they track where the rest of the stolen gear ended up.
