Guwahati: Gauhati University just started its first month-long journalism summer training program. The Department of Communication and Journalism opened the doors on July 1 to 30 students hailing from across the Northeast. It is a busy month. The initiative marks part of the department’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations and runs through July 31.

Registrar Prof. Utpal Kumar Sarma inaugurated the event. Students will focus on media production, filmmaking, photography, and digital storytelling to prepare for a shifting industry. Head of the Department Prof. Ankuran Dutta said the initiative reflects the department's focus on strengthening practical learning alongside academic training and preparing students for the changing media industry. The department has been around since 1967.

Participants face a packed schedule. They will balance classroom sessions with workshops and real-world assignments. Experts, including journalists and filmmakers from across the country, will lead these interactions. Every student must present a final project when the program wraps up at the end of the month.
