Fresh Violence Erupts in Manipur After Volunteer Killed

Imphal: Violence returned to the conflict-hit Sadar Hills region of Manipur on Saturday morning. The Kuki-Zo Village Volunteers reported the death of one of their members during an encounter near Lasan Kuki-Zo village.

The deceased was identified as 39-year-old Jangngam Hangshing, a resident of Lhouthang village in the Kangpokpi district. The incident occurred around 8:40 a.m. while volunteers were conducting security and vigilance activities in the area. The organization stated that the volunteer was killed while performing duties aimed at protecting Kuki villages amid the ongoing security instability in the region.

In a formal statement, the Kuki-Zo Village Volunteers alleged that the NSCN-IM and the ZUF Kamson faction continue to threaten the safety of local communities. The group declared, "The organisation asserted that it would continue its efforts to protect villages and safeguard community interests."

The volunteer group warned that any parties found collaborating with the attackers will face consequences. They are demanding that the individuals responsible for the killing be identified and held accountable. The organization reiterated its commitment to community security and extended condolences to the family of the slain volunteer.
