France and Meghalaya Target Deeper Sports and Cultural Ties

Shillong: France and Meghalaya are teaming up to sharpen sporting skills and deepen cultural bonds. Consul General of France Thierry Morel met with Meghalaya State Planning Board Co-Chairman John F. Kharshiing at the French consulate in Kolkata on Monday. They want to move fast. The pair discussed swapping athletes and coaches while sharing technical expertise to lift sports standards in the state.

Kharshiing looked back at a past football program in Lyon. That project gave local players a massive boost in international experience. Both sides want to replicate that success in other sports. This collaboration plugs directly into a wider agreement between the Indian Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports and the French Ministry of Sports. The existing deal covers everything from sports medicine to building better infrastructure.

Officials plan to keep talking in the coming months to pin down specific projects. Kharshiing invited Morel to Shillong to advance these plans. The Consul General accepted the offer to visit at a later date. They aim to bridge the gap between their people. As the meeting closed, both parties confirmed their focus on progress. They are betting on long-term cooperation to drive results. As Kharshiing noted, the goal is to build on "positive outcomes" found in previous shared sporting efforts.
