Itanagar: A complex, multi-agency operation saved four men stranded on a river island in the Sisiri River on Monday morning. Geram Lego, Abom Tayeng, Maksam Pertin, and Mitom Borang became trapped while fishing on Sunday.

Bad weather halted the rescue effort Sunday evening. Heavy rain forced the group to stay on the island throughout the night. Operations picked back up at dawn with help from the National Disaster Response Force, local rafters, elephant owners, and the Indian Air Force.

Dambuk MLA Puinnyo Apum managed the scene alongside district officials. The Indian Air Force eventually airlifted the men to safety. Apum praised the coordination of the various teams involved in the high-stakes recovery.

"With a heart full of immense relief and profound gratitude, following a gruelling, round the clock rescue operation all four individuals have been safely evacuated and airlifted and are now back with their anxious families," Apum said. He also warned locals to stay clear of rivers during the monsoon season to prevent similar disasters.
