Four Arrested as Manipur Police Seize Illegal Brown Sugar

Imphal: Manipur Police and security forces locked up four suspects during two days of anti-narcotics raids in Imphal East and Thoubal districts. They snatched a stash of suspected brown sugar off the streets.

Security teams nabbed 35-year-old Md. Wahidur Rahaman on June 22. He is from Kwakta but lives in Mantripukhri. Officers grabbed him near the Minuthong area in Imphal East. They found roughly one kilogram of brown sugar in his possession.

The crackdown continued into June 23. Police stopped three men from Lilong Sambrukhong in the Thoubal district. Officers recovered two soap cases holding 80 grams of suspected brown sugar. Those arrested include 37-year-old Sureiya, 33-year-old Md. Tamijuddin, and 31-year-old Md. Sarafuddin.

Authorities have started legal action against the group. "Police said legal proceedings have been initiated in connection with the seizures, and further investigation is underway." Investigators are now digging into the supply chain to track the source of the drugs.
