Former Arunachal Pradesh Sub Post Master Convicted in Corruption Case

Itanagar: The Anti-Corruption Bureau in Itanagar has successfully secured a conviction in a long-standing case of public fund misappropriation at the Jang Sub Post Office. Former Sub Post Master Partho Pratim Baruah was sentenced to five years of rigorous imprisonment following the court's final ruling on May 14, 2026.

The investigation began after Kusheshwar Pandit, an assistant superintendent, reported that over 8.25 lakh rupees was missing from the post office's cash balance in April 2011. The complaint led to the registration of a formal case at the Special Investigation Cell, which has since transitioned into the current Anti-Corruption Bureau.

Special Judge Dr. Hirendra Kashyap presided over the proceedings at the West Sessions Division in Yupia. The court found the evidence sufficient to convict Baruah under the Indian Penal Code and the Prevention of Corruption Act. Officials credited the successful outcome to the dedicated work of the investigating team over the course of the legal process.
