Guwahati: Lakhipur forest officials raided Jaleswar Market in Goalpara district to shut down illegal timber operations. The team seized 80 cubic feet of sawn wood during the surprise inspection of local shops. It was a clean hit. Regional Forest Officer Maupran Gayan led the operation to dismantle the supply chain.

This enforcement follows direct orders from Forest Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah. He recently demanded aggressive action against unauthorized sawmills and the destruction of state timber resources. The department is stepping up field patrols to choke off illegal trade in vulnerable areas.

Officials stated that the Lakhipur Forest Division has stepped up field-level enforcement to implement these directives and strengthen monitoring mechanisms in vulnerable areas. The department confirmed that additional raids are planned for the coming days to maintain pressure on black market operators.
