Forest Department Shuts Down Illegal Sawmill in Bongaigaon

Guwahati: Forest officials struck an illegal sawmill in Bongaigaon today. The Abhayapuri Forest Range raid hit a site in Lengtisinga. They tore the whole operation down.

Range Forest Officer Shankar Ray led the team. The crew seized heavy machinery, piles of logs, and finished planks. The mill owner heard about the raid and took off before guards reached the site.

This raid follows a direct order from Forest Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah. He told officials to kill all illegal sawmills across the state within a week. The department says the mission is simple. The Forest Department said "similar enforcement drives will continue to curb illegal timber operations and protect forest resources."

Forest guards are currently hunting for more illegal sites. The crackdown shows no signs of slowing down.
