Agartala: Torrential monsoon rains hit Tripura, forcing 17 families to flee their homes in the Dhalai district. The India Meteorological Department issued an orange alert for the entire state as heavy rain continues to lash the region. Water surged into homes near Chawmanu block with little warning. Residents scrambled to escape the rising tide.
Families left their belongings behind to seek refuge at a local school rest house. Locals claim officials have yet to arrive at the scene to provide aid. One resident noted, "Several families were unable to bring their belongings as water entered their houses."
Chhamanu recorded the highest rainfall in the state at 139.2 mm. Other areas like Ambassa, Gandacherra, and Agartala saw massive downpours exceeding 100 mm. Weather officials warn the monsoon remains active. Intermittent heavy rain is expected across the state for the next few days.
