Guwahati: Heavy rain lashed the Bargolai area of Tinsukia on June 26, turning local roads into rivers. Traffic ground to a halt as water swallowed the stretch from Bashbari through Ledo College and up to Nefa Tea Industries. The highway became impassable for most vehicles, leaving commuters stranded for hours in long snarls.
The rising water did not stay on the road. It poured into nearby houses, soaking floors and ruining personal belongings. Near Bargolai Chariali, the scene turned surreal. People hauled out fishing nets to catch fish directly off the submerged national highway.
Local families are fed up. They point their fingers at the Margherita Co-District Administration, citing a long history of neglect. Residents claim the current crisis stems from poor drainage planning and botched development projects. One local expressed the frustration shared by many, stating, "The public continues to suffer due to the failure of the administration to address the area's drainage problems."
Now, citizens are demanding immediate action. They want the government to overhaul the drainage network before the monsoon season drags on and brings more destruction to their doorsteps.
