Guwahati: Flash floods in Assam left over 15 people and 100 cattle trapped on a riverine island early Sunday. The Dikari River swelled after heavy rain, surging into Koraibari Char in Telam and cutting off all escape routes. The situation remains dire.

Roads, homes, and farmlands are now underwater across Jonai. Residents in low-lying areas scrambled to reach higher ground as the water kept climbing. The swift current makes rescue efforts dangerous.

The Jonai administration called in the State Disaster Response Force to handle the crisis. Rescue teams faced heavy rain and high water levels while trying to reach the stranded victims. Official warnings remain in place for anyone near the river, as officials state that "continued rainfall could further aggravate the flood situation in the region."

People remain stuck on the char. Help has not yet arrived.
