Itanagar: Torrential rains triggered deadly flash floods across Arunachal Pradesh this week. One person died and four others remain missing after the deluge hit the Keyi Panyor district between June 23 and 24. Floodwaters hammered the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited project area in Yazali Circle, wrecking nearly 50 homes in the process.

Search crews recovered the body of 35-year-old Nirmala Gupta, a teacher at the local Vivekananda Kendra Vidyalaya. Rescue teams paused their work overnight but plan to restart on Thursday morning. The missing group includes a 13-year-old child.

Landslides severed road access to six districts including Kamle, Kra Daadi, Kurung Kumey, Lower Subansiri, and Upper Subansiri. A bridge connecting East Kameng and Pakke Kessang also sustained damage. Indian Air Force pilots flew over the region to map the destruction. Meanwhile, the SDRF, NDRF, and police are scouring the area.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu ordered officials in all 28 districts to prepare for more storms. "While we cannot prevent natural calamities, preparedness is essential, especially during the monsoon season when Arunachal Pradesh experiences intense rainfall," Khandu said. He urged all residents to stay alert as the monsoon continues.
