Aizawl: Police in Aizawl arrested five individuals, including two minors, following the assault of a 19-year-old man on May 27. The attack occurred early Tuesday morning near the Grand Hotel in the city's Chanmari area. According to officials, the victim was walking home when a group of teenagers confronted him, leading to an altercation and the subsequent assault. The victim was hospitalized, and authorities confirmed that his condition is stable.
Three of the suspects have been remanded to judicial custody. The two minors involved are currently under the supervision of the Juvenile Justice Board. Following the incident, the Young Mizo Association expressed deep concern regarding an uptick in nighttime violence and gang activity throughout the capital. The organization described the city as increasingly unsafe after dark.
The group has called on the state government and law enforcement to increase efforts to maintain public order. They also urged families and local branches to help monitor their neighborhoods. Residents are encouraged to report any signs of public disturbance to the police or community leaders immediately to ensure a swifter response to crime.
