Itanagar: A massive fire ripped through Itanagar’s Puroik Colony early Thursday morning. The blaze destroyed eight houses and left several families without a place to sleep. It started around 12:20 am in the Pappu Nallah area. Three fire tenders and 11 firefighters fought the flames for over three hours before gaining control. No one died. No one was hurt.
Initial reports point to a faulty wire in a rented room. A tenant at the scene told officials the blaze started from an electrical short circuit. Authorities are still investigating the exact cause to confirm those early claims. The prompt response from emergency teams kept the fire from jumping to other nearby buildings.
Itanagar MLA Techi Kaso visited the charred site later that day. He brought along district officials and the local corporator to look at the wreckage. Kaso ordered a formal assessment of the damage to ensure victims get government aid. "Immediate assistance was provided to the affected families and tenants," officials said after the visit.
