Guwahati: A private school in Assam's Nagaon district was reduced to ashes following a destructive fire late Saturday night. The blaze broke out around 11 pm at Modern Adarsha Senior Secondary School in the Kachkhaiti area under Rupahi Hat, causing significant financial losses.
Local residents initially rushed to the scene to battle the flames, but the fire spread too quickly to contain. Fire crews from the Sonaribali and Ambagan stations eventually arrived to extinguish the fire, though the building and its contents had already been gutted. Valuable school furniture, educational supplies, and essential documents were lost in the disaster.
While no casualties were reported, authorities suspect an electrical fault or a short circuit caused the fire. The incident has prompted calls from residents in surrounding villages for better local emergency infrastructure. Many locals expressed concern that the lack of nearby fire stations hindered a faster response to the emergency.
