Guwahati: Manju Gopal Kurmi died from a lethal electric shock on July 23. He was working on a power line near the Dak Bungalow area, roughly three kilometres from Assam University in Silchar. He died on the job. The incident happened just two months after his wedding.
Grief gripped his household. Family members, neighbours, and local residents packed into his home to mourn the loss of a primary breadwinner. The sudden death left the young widow in an impossible financial spot. Relatives and community members are now pressuring the local electricity department for help.
The family wants cash compensation and a government job for his wife. They claim the household is facing immediate hardship. Local residents are also backing these demands, calling for a transparent investigation into the accident. They want officials to take action, noting that the "administration and the concerned department are yet to respond to the family's demands."
