Guwahati: Rabindra Chandra Nag died Tuesday inside Kokrajhar Jail. He was behind bars for faking his medical credentials. The man suffered a sudden cardiac emergency in the early morning hours.

Police arrested Nag on June 25 in Dhaligaon. The Assam Council of Medical Registration filed an FIR against him before his apprehension. After a court appearance that same day, he went to jail.

Guards rushed him to Kokrajhar Medical College once he fell ill. Doctors could not save him. He died at 7:30 a.m. despite medical intervention. Officials stated that he "succumbed to his condition" shortly after arrival. An investigation into the custodial death is now underway.
