Excise Officials Seize Over 800 Bottles of Alcohol in Niuland

Kohima: Excise authorities in Niuland arrested a 57-year-old local resident following the seizure of 816 bottles of alcohol on June 8, 2026. The operation took place during a mobile vehicle check post duty conducted by the Excise Narcotic Cell.

Led by assistant inspector of excise Hamngai Phom, the team acted on a tip-off and conducted surveillance before intercepting a suspected vehicle. A search of the transport uncovered 720 bottles of beer and 96 bottles of whisky. The suspect, identified as Akaho, faces charges under the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition Act. All recovered items are now held at the Excise Narcotic Cell Malkhana.

Joint commissioner of excise S. Phyobemo Kikon confirmed the arrest in a press release. The department continues to ramp up enforcement efforts across the state. Statistics from the inter-state check gate at Khushiabill show that officials registered 36 offences under the Act during May 2026, resulting in the seizure of 1,560 bottles and cans of assorted alcoholic beverages.
