Equipment Failures Trigger Widespread Power Outages in Kohima

Kohima: Equipment breakdowns have plunged parts of Kohima district into darkness. The Department of Power confirmed failure at the 132/33/11 kV RESS Kohima and a faulted transformer at the Chiephobozou Sub-Station. Bad weather caused the latter failure. Repairs are ongoing.

Outages hit Kohima Town, Kohima Village, and the Southern Angami area. Power lines from Pfuchama to Khuzama are down. Northern Angami areas between Meriema and Botsa face similar blackouts. The Pughoboto Range remains in the dark as well.

The department currently relies on a single 33 kV feeder from the NU Meriema Sub-Station to keep the lights on. This temporary fix makes the network fragile. A fault on either the Kohima Ring Main Line or the Kohima-Chiethu Line kills power to both.

Officials are working to fix the gear and get the grid back to normal. The department requested public patience while they manage the broken system. "It appealed to the public to bear with the temporary inconvenience and extend their cooperation until the system is restored and alternate arrangements are put in place."
