Agartala: A 12-coach electric Mainline Electric Multiple Unit (MEMU) train arrived at Sabroom railway station on Sunday afternoon, marking a significant step toward upgrading rail connectivity in Tripura. The train reached the station at approximately 4 pm, drawing a crowd of curious locals and passengers eager to see the new electric service.

Railway authorities conducted the trial run to assess the technical and operational readiness of the tracks and overhead electrical systems. The exercise ensured that all necessary arrangements are in place before regular operations begin on the route connecting Sabroom and Karimganj. The train driver noted that the 12-coach MEMU had reached Sabroom for testing purposes and that the initial observations were satisfactory.

Officials are currently evaluating the trial results to determine the feasibility of full-scale electric service. Once the testing phase concludes, a detailed report will be submitted to the relevant authorities for a final decision. Local residents have welcomed the initiative, anticipating that the electric train service will provide more convenient travel options and strengthen the regional rail network.
