Aizawl: Election Commission of India Deputy Director Apurva Kumar Singh arrived in Aizawl on Wednesday to evaluate the state's media and communication readiness for the 2026 Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. During his visit, Singh met with Mizoram Chief Electoral Officer Garima Gupta to discuss the ongoing electoral processes.

Singh led a training workshop at the MINECO Secretariat for District Media Nodal Officers. The session covered strategic communication plans, potential challenges, and methods to boost public participation. Joint Chief Electoral Officer Ethel Rothangpuii chaired the meeting, emphasizing the critical role these officers play in the success of the revision exercise.

The Deputy Director highlighted that the primary goal of the revision is to register every eligible citizen aged 18 and older while ensuring ineligible individuals are excluded. He urged the officers to prioritize public outreach and maintain accurate documentation of their publicity efforts. Singh also introduced a new Standard Operating Procedure to guide officials in disseminating information effectively.

District media officials provided updates on their current progress and upcoming tasks. The visit continues on Thursday, as Singh plans to inspect an Electoral Registration Officer office and observe Booth Level Officers distributing enumeration forms. He is also set to host a press conference before concluding his trip.
