Guwahati: A 70-year-old woman was found dead in her home in Bhulukaguri village, Assam, on June 16, prompting a police investigation into a suspected murder. Nareswari Medhi Prasad lived alone, and her body was discovered by a relative who visited the residence in the afternoon.

The relative became suspicious after finding the front door locked while the rear entrance was left open. Upon entering the home, they found the victim lying motionless on a bed. Witnesses reported that the victim's face was covered in blood, with clear injury marks visible on her neck and face, suggesting a physical assault took place.

Family members believe the crime was motivated by robbery. They noted that the victim was a pension recipient following the death of her husband, who was a former railway employee. As local authorities search for those responsible, officials are keeping all possibilities open. Senior police officers from Morigaon have arrived at the scene to conduct a formal investigation. A forensic team is expected to examine the site to determine the precise cause of death. As authorities work to identify the perpetrators, officials stated, "Police have not ruled out any angle and are investigating the case."
