Agartala: Tension spread through the Gokulnagar Rastarmatha area after an elderly man accused a Tripura State Rifles jawan of physically assaulting him. Narayan Debnath claims the incident occurred when he confronted the officer, Bijoy Das, to ask about the current whereabouts of his son, Sajal Debnath.

The family says Bijoy Das originally arranged for Sajal to work abroad. Although Sajal returned to the state three years ago, he reportedly went directly to the jawan’s home instead of visiting his own family. The relatives claim that Das sent Sajal abroad a second time, but the man has since lost all contact with his family. Narayan Debnath alleges that every time he has attempted to question the jawan about his son, he has been met with threats and verbal abuse.

On May 19, the situation escalated when the elderly man encountered the jawan in the Rastarmatha area. He alleges that Das and his nephew accosted him and launched a physical attack. Following the altercation, the family has called on local authorities to launch a formal investigation and hold the accused accountable for both the assault and the disappearance of their son.
