Eight Manipur Artistes Honored with Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards

Imphal: Eight artistes from Manipur have received national recognition for their contributions to the arts. Former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh announced the recipients of the 2024-25 Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards and the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar on Sunday, June 14.

Irengbam Nalini Devi, Lourembam Bedabati Devi, and Rajkumari Thambalsana Devi earned the Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards. Meanwhile, the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar was awarded to Phuritshabam Debajani Devi, Lukram Tamphamani Singh, Yumnam Bimota Devi, Tongbram Roneld Meetei, and Oasis Sougaijam.

In a post on X, the former Chief Minister celebrated the awardees for their long-term dedication to the region. He stated that the honorees had "preserved and promoted Manipur's cultural heritage through years of dedication, perseverance and artistic excellence."

Singh noted that these contributions help maintain the unique cultural identity of Manipur while inspiring younger generations to continue these traditions. He expressed his hope that these national awards will highlight the state's artistic legacy and boost appreciation for its creative achievements across the country.
