Itanagar: East Siang Police achieved a legal victory this week as a local man was convicted on drug-related charges. Rijon Doley received a sentence of one year of rigorous imprisonment after appearing before the Special Judge in Pasighat.

The legal proceedings stemmed from an investigation initiated on June 9, 2025. Authorities acted on credible information regarding the illegal possession of suspected heroin at Doley's residence in Banskota. Following a targeted search of the property, police filed the case and moved forward with prosecution.

Doley pleaded guilty to charges under Sections 21(a) and 27(a) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. The court ordered the one-year sentence to run for each section of the act.

Superintendent of Police Pankaj Lamba stated that this outcome serves as a testament to the department's ongoing efforts to enforce drug laws and promote a safer community. Lamba also called on the public and local youth to reject substance abuse and assist law enforcement in the broader effort to eliminate narcotics from the region.
