East Khasi Hills Sets Polio Drive and Rath Yatra Schedule

Shillong: The Health and Family Welfare department kicks off National Immunisation Day this Monday in East Khasi Hills. They are running the Pulse Polio Programme to protect kids under five. The drive includes a two-day house-to-house sweep to reach every child. Health officials want total coverage. "All parents are requested to bring their children below the age of 5 years to the designated booths in their respective villages/localities for vaccination," the department stated. They need help from local headmen, NGOs, church leaders, and community groups to get the job done.

Meanwhile, the Laban Sanatan Dharmasabha Harisabha Temple set its calendar for the Rath Yatra Utsav. Events start June 29 with the yearly Snan Yatra and Purnima Puja. Devotees can gather for the ceremonial bathing of the deity between 10 am and 12 noon. The big event happens July 16. That day features a special puja and the traditional chariot pull. The final leg of the festivities, the Ulta-Rath Yatra, takes place on July 24. This return procession moves from Yogamaya Ashram back to the Harisabha Temple.
