East Jaintia Hills Court Sentences Man to 15 Years for POCSO Offence

Shillong: The Special Judge for POCSO cases in East Jaintia Hills, B Khriam, has sentenced Rephius Thamar to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 following his conviction under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.

Thamar faced charges under Section 3(a) and Section 4 of the Act, which cover the legal definitions and penalties for penetrative sexual assault. The legal proceedings began after the case was registered at the Khliehriat Women Police Station.

Investigating officer WPSI S Kharsati filed the charge sheet on August 18, 2020. After completing the trial, the court delivered the conviction order on May 6, 2026.
