Domesticated Elephant Kills Handler in Assam Attack

Guwahati: A mahout was killed on May 28 when a domesticated elephant attacked him in the Dergaon area of Assam. The incident occurred at Molai Kumar Gaon as the elephant, identified as Ramprasad, encountered another elephant feeding near a roadside Shiva temple.

Prashanta, the mahout of the second elephant, reportedly stepped down from his animal during the encounter. Ramprasad suddenly turned on the man and killed him instantly before wandering away from the site. The animal was later captured by its handler and secured in a forest area near Bengalgaon village.

Local residents claim this is not the first time the elephant has been involved in a lethal encounter. They allege that Ramprasad killed its own owner roughly one year ago. Dergaon police and forest department officials are currently investigating the circumstances of the latest attack.
