Guwahati: Cachar Police arrested a man identified as a doctor following the late-night rescue of a minor girl who had been missing for nearly three months. The operation took place at the Parijat Hotel and Restaurant in Lathigram, situated within the Udharbond Police Station jurisdiction, after authorities received reports regarding suspicious activities at the location.
The accused, JP Das, was taken into custody during the raid on Tuesday. Officers recovered the missing minor and two other victims from the premises. According to police officials, the investigation is now focused on how the victims arrived at the hotel and if the establishment management played a role in the situation.
Udharbond police have registered a formal case under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, and the Immoral Traffic Prevention Act. Authorities are currently examining the potential involvement of a broader human trafficking syndicate.
Cachar Superintendent of Police Sanjib Saikia confirmed the case is being handled with priority. "The invocation of POCSO and anti-trafficking provisions has added further seriousness to the case," he said. Investigators noted that Das was previously arrested in a separate case involving allegations of being a fake doctor, for which a chargesheet is already on file.
