Kohima: Dimapur police took a 27-year-old man into custody following the discovery of a woman's body at Master Colony in Naharbari. Officers identified the victim as 28-year-old Roshni, originally from the Nagaon district of Assam.
Authorities received notice of the death on June 28 at 10:30 am. A police team headed to the scene to conduct an inquest. They moved the remains to the District Hospital Dimapur for a post-mortem exam.
The investigation took a turn when detectives discovered the woman's two minor daughters and a young brother were missing. Police tracked the trio to a location in Diphupar B village. They rescued the children and placed them in the care of Childline.
Investigators brought the victim's cousin, Salim Ali, in for questioning. Evidence linked Ali to the violent crime. The Commissioner of Police confirmed the arrest and noted that "further investigation is underway" regarding the charges of murder and sexual assault. Officials registered the case at the Women Police Station.
