Kohima: Dimapur Police locked up a 27-year-old man on Sunday. He faces charges for the murder and sexual assault of his cousin sister at Master Colony in Naharbari. Officers from the Women Police Station swarmed the crime scene after receiving reports of a dead woman at 10:30 a.m.
The victim was 28-year-old Roshni, daughter of Fazar Ali. She lived in Ward 10 of Naharbari. Police sent her body to the District Hospital in Dimapur for a post-mortem exam.
Investigators discovered the victim's two young daughters and her minor brother were missing from the house. They tracked the three children to Diphupar B Village near Chümoukedima. The kids are now safe with Childline. Authorities also detained Salim Ali, the victim's cousin, for questioning.
Police gathered enough evidence to link Salim Ali to the crime. He remains in custody as the case moves forward at the Women Police Station. An official statement noted that "a case has been registered at Women PS, Dimapur, and investigation underway."
