Kohima: The Special POCSO Court in Dimapur recently sentenced two men to lengthy prison terms following separate trials for the sexual abuse of minors. In the first case, a driver named Holotoka Yepthomi received 10 years of rigorous imprisonment after being found guilty of repeatedly molesting and raping a minor at an orphanage in Medziphema. The court ordered that his sentences under the Indian Penal Code and the POCSO Act run concurrently. Officials have directed the Dimapur District Legal Services Authority to arrange compensation for the survivor to aid in her long-term rehabilitation.

The incident came to light after the victim filed a formal police complaint in October 2017. In a separate legal proceeding, the Fast Track Special Court in Dimapur sentenced a man named Helminthang to 24 years of rigorous imprisonment. He was convicted for a penetrative sexual assault that occurred in 2020 at Khaibung village. Along with the prison term, the court ordered him to pay a fine of 10,000 rupees to the victim as part of his sentencing under the POCSO Act and the Indian Penal Code.
