Kohima: A scheduled floor test against Dimapur Municipal Council chairperson Hukheto Yepthomi was cancelled this week after internal disputes were resolved. The district administration confirmed the withdrawal of the no-confidence motion after six of the 12 councillors who originally backed the measure formally pulled their support.
Deputy Commissioner Tinojongshi Chang verified the signatures and subsequently called off the special meeting that was set for Friday. This shift in momentum followed mediation efforts by senior Naga People’s Front leaders who stepped in to address fractures within the local government.
In a joint public statement, Yepthomi and deputy chairperson Imlinaro Stephanie Ezung emphasized that the decision to reconcile was made to protect party unity and prioritize public service. The members pledged to focus on transparency, accountability, and the efficient operation of the municipal council. The group also issued an appeal for continued cooperation from Dimapur residents as they shift their focus back to city development.
