Guwahati: Dima Hasao is cashing in on a summer tourism surge. The Dima Hasao Autonomous Council will run an Ethnic Fest every Friday and Saturday throughout July. It is a joint effort between Dima Hasao Tourism and the local Cultural Department. The goal is simple: put the district on the map.
Events land at Haflong Lake, the I Love Dima Hasao View Point, the Umrongso Golf Course, and Jatinga. Expect traditional dance, tribal food, and local crafts. This is about more than just sightseeing. It gives small business owners a place to sell their work.
Josringdao Phonglo, Chairman of Dima Hasao Tourism, announced the plan Tuesday in Haflong. He believes the event will bolster the local economy. "The initiative has been designed to provide local entrepreneurs, artisans and small businesses with a platform to promote and sell their products while enriching the experience of tourists visiting the district," Phonglo said. The council expects these weekends to cement the region’s status as a top summer destination.
