Guwahati: Digboi Forest Division agents flattened seven illegal sawmills and grabbed a haul of timber in a targeted strike. The raids hit sites in Digboi, Golai, and Saraipung. Foresters acted on intelligence reports about a smuggling ring running timber from Arunachal Pradesh into Assam. DFO Rohini Kumar Das led the operation. Teams seized cutting gear, power tools, and heavy machinery.

A separate police sweep caught a truck loaded with illegal logs at Jagun. The vehicle, registration AS01N-29879, was headed for Tinsukia. Authorities impounded the truck and the timber. Investigators are now tracking the supply chain to bust the wider network.

"The department reiterated that action would continue against those involved in illegal tree felling, timber smuggling and the operation of unauthorised sawmills, and appealed to the public to report forest-related offences."

The government is turning up the heat on traffickers. Patrols are tighter now on all interstate transit routes. Officials warned that these operations will not stop.
