Guwahati: The Dibrugarh District Administration cleared illegal settlements along the Brahmaputra River banks on Wednesday. Heavy earthmovers tore down houses and temporary structures sitting on government land behind the local Gurudwara. The area had been occupied by families for years.

Circle Officer Samujjwal Borah led the operation. Police stayed on site to keep the peace. No violence broke out during the demolition. Officials confirmed the eviction was part of a larger plan to reclaim public space.

The administration intends to protect government land and improve local infrastructure. They warned that further actions are coming. Regarding future enforcement, authorities stated, "The administration will continue taking action against illegal encroachments on government land across the district in accordance with the law."

Officials kept a strong security presence during the work. The land now falls back under state control. The government plans to monitor the area to prevent anyone from moving back in.
