Guwahati: Dhubri police arrested two local residents on Sunday night after uncovering an illegal narcotics trade operating from a commercial shop on IG Road. The operation followed intelligence reports that prompted members of the District Crime Unit to conduct undercover surveillance before taking action.

Additional Superintendent of Police Dr. Anup Jyoti Borah supervised the search of the premises. Officers apprehended the shop owner, 50-year-old Shahajada Sheikh, after discovering a significant amount of contraband tablets, narcotic cough syrup, and cash believed to be linked to drug sales. The shopkeeper, 41-year-old Afzalur Hussain, was also taken into custody after police found additional bottles of prohibited cough syrup hidden inside the store.

Both men remain in police custody as officials process the case under relevant narcotics laws. Investigators are currently working to identify the primary suppliers and determine the full reach of the distribution network operating within the district.
