Guwahati: Locals in Dhubri town caught a thief inside the Bidyapara Jama Masjid on Tuesday. The suspect, Abdul Mollah of New Ghat Ironjongla Part-III, allegedly entered the mosque during the afternoon to strip out electrical cables and other utility materials. Residents became suspicious, swarmed the building, and stopped him in his tracks.

Witnesses said Mollah was pulling out internal contents and cutting wires when they confronted him. The mosque committee had been on edge after a recent burglary. Members compared Mollah to a person seen in previous security recordings. "Members of the mosque management committee stated that the Bidyapara Jama Masjid had also experienced a burglary a few days earlier."

Dhubri Sadar Police arrived shortly after the detention. Officers took the suspect into custody along with the recovered property. Investigators are now digging into whether Mollah is responsible for a string of other cable thefts or break-ins at religious sites across the city. The man remains in police custody pending further legal action.
