Guwahati: Dhubri forest officials shuttered an illegal saw mill on Saturday. They acted on intelligence reports regarding timber smuggling at the Porarvita char area. The raid caught operators off guard, though the suspects vanished before the team arrived.

Forest personnel tore down the band saw mill and hauled away valuable logs. The department moved all seized gear and wood to the Dhubri Forest Depot. Khargeshwar Baishya, Range Officer of the Dhubri Forest Check Station, confirmed the operation followed orders from Divisional Forest Officer Golap Kumar Bania. He noted, "The illegal setup was successfully dismantled."

No arrests happened during the raid. The crew escaped into the brush. Officials filed a formal case under the Assam Forest Regulation Act. Investigators are now tracking down the owners of the mill to face charges.
