Guwahati: Sonari police arrested Bijoy Das at his home in Mangalpuri, Delhi, on Thursday, August 27. The arrest follows an investigation into a Rs 12 lakh fraud case. Das faces accusations of taking the money back in 2021 under the guise of building a water purification plant in Assam's Charaideo district.

Bhaban Phukan, a local resident, filed the complaint. Phukan claimed he handed over the advance payment, but the plant never arrived. Das vanished with the cash. Police tracked the suspect across state lines and coordinated with Delhi Police to make the pinch on Thursday morning. The suspect is now in custody.

Authorities are picking apart the deal. They want to know exactly how the payment moved and why the project collapsed. "Das has been brought into police custody as the investigation into the alleged financial fraud continues," police stated. Investigators say more facts will emerge as the case develops.
