Coordinated Arson Attacks Target Vehicles Across Shillong

Shillong: A series of coordinated arson attacks struck four separate areas of Shillong early Saturday morning, damaging police, government, and private vehicles. The fires began around 3 am in a targeted effort to disrupt public order across the capital city.

In the high-security Kench’s Trace area, arsonists set fire to a police vehicle parked at the local beat house, leaving it with significant damage to the interior and hood. Simultaneously, a Health Department Innova near Synod College in Lumdiengjri was badly damaged by flames. Further strikes occurred in Mawlai Phudmuri, where a North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited vehicle was gutted, and in the Dongkamon area of Nongmensong, where a tourist taxi sustained fire damage.

East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem confirmed that investigators believe the incidents are linked due to their near-simultaneous timing across the city. He stated, “Cases are being registered to investigate and nab the culprits.” Authorities are now increasing security measures while working to identify the individuals responsible for the attacks.
