Construction worker killed in earth mound collapse near Shillong

Shillong: A construction worker died on Friday after becoming trapped under a large mound of earth at a building project in Mawdiangdiang, located on the outskirts of Shillong. The accident occurred while the crew was excavating the site to prepare a building foundation.

Following an alert from the East Khasi Hills District Disaster Management Authority, a team from the State Disaster Response Force arrived at the scene to begin a rescue operation. Rescuers worked for nearly an hour before they were able to locate the victim.

An official confirmed the recovery of the body at 4.10 p.m. Authorities have yet to identify the worker or explain the specific circumstances that caused the earth mound to collapse. A local official stated, "After nearly an hour of efforts, SDRF personnel located and recovered the labourer's body from beneath the debris."
