Congress MLA Demands Crackdown on Guwahati Green Bus Drivers

Guwahati: Guwahati buses are causing chaos. Congress MLA Jakir Hussain Sikdar slammed the operation of the city's Green Bus service on July 8, citing a pattern of reckless driving and ignored traffic laws. Residents are fed up. Locals claim the drivers treat the roads like their own personal tracks, often causing collisions and dodging accountability.

Sikdar demanded that authorities tighten the reins immediately. He insists that the lack of oversight puts innocent commuters at risk every single day. The legislator pointed to repeated complaints from the public regarding how the fleet ignores standard safety protocols while navigating the city streets.

"The allegations were raised by the people of Assam and by the people of Guwahati. They said that the Green Bus does not operate the way it is supposed to. It runs according to its own will. It hits people and does not listen to anyone. It does not follow traffic rules," Sikdar said.

The MLA noted that while he respects government policy, the current reality on the ground is unacceptable. He urged officials to force operators into compliance to stop the surge in preventable road accidents.
