Imphal: Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh cleared the Rikhruri Multipurpose Dam project today during a visit to Senapati district. The dam will deliver drinking water to 27 villages in the surrounding area. Khemchand Singh joined forces with Deputy Chief Minister Losii Dikho and local officials to inspect ongoing development work across the region.
The Chief Minister stopped at the government Potato Farm in Mao to hear concerns from Horticulture Commissioner T.N. Panmei. Lack of cash stalled production for two years. Khemchand Singh insisted the area holds massive potential for potato and flower farming. "The government would engage with stakeholders to address the challenges faced by farmers and residents of the Mao area," the Chief Minister promised.
Discussions continued at the Mini Secretariat Complex with United Naga Council members. Later, at a public reception in Punanamei village, the Chief Minister addressed a demand from the Mao Students' Union. They want a new skill training and youth center. He promised to bring that proposal before the State Cabinet for a vote.
The administration also pledged to review land agreements at the potato farm. Officials will work with relevant departments to resolve these outstanding issues for the local landowners.
