Chandel Election Officials Push for Voter Roll Accuracy

Imphal: Chandel district officials met with political party leaders today to iron out details for the Special Intensive Revision of the electoral roll. Md. Firoz Khan, the Additional Deputy Commissioner and Electoral Registration Officer, led the discussion at the district headquarters.

The Election Commission of India aims to pack the rolls with every eligible voter. Khan noted that as of June 28, 2026, 38,075 of the 44,745 targeted electors had already handed in their enumeration forms. A massive crew including officers, volunteers, and party-appointed agents handled the heavy lifting for this data collection.

Officials will open a window for claims and objections starting July 5 and running through August 4, 2026. This allows anyone left off the list to get on board. Khan addressed potential fraud during the briefing. He stated: "The names of electors found enrolled at multiple places will be retained only at one place in accordance with the prescribed guidelines."

The district plans to publish the final roll on September 6, 2026. Khan urged the party representatives to push public awareness so no qualified voter loses their voice in the coming cycle.
